...Punk feminist movement..."Riot grrrl"... Do it yourself!!..

...Riot Grrrl began in 1991 in Washington, when a few girls decided to get together and talk about their main interests...feminism and punk rock. The first time they met it was all fun, they put posters to get attention of other girls.
Bikini Kill was the band who started it all, with the rallying cry, "Revolution Girl Style Now!" they and other bands like Bratmobile and Heavens to Betsy created a movement to combat what they saw as the male-dominance of the punk scene . However they doesn't think of themselves as starting the riot grrrl movement but at least I think they did. Some people say that riot grrrls, and feminists are women who hate men but they aren't, They just want to be equal to men, not better to them, most riot grrrls believe in DIY. (do it yourself) That means that they start riot grrrl chapters, magazines, etc.

A great example of Riot grrl band was "The distillers"this band was formed in 1997 in Los Angeles, California by Brody Dalle(vocal), with Rose Casper on guitar, Kim Chi on bass and Matt Young on drums.

Brody dalle was the lead singer and guitarrist of the band. She grew up in melbourne, Australia.
Brody's mother kicked out the father of her when she was a little girl and for that reason they hated each other , she started to doing drugs and cutting herself .At age 15 she was kicked out of the public school, she found a escape for all her hate listening punk rock bands. Its angry, screaming was what she felt and wanted to say , Later she formed her own band called Sourpuss which got the chance to play with Sonic Youth and The Beastie Boys, in that place she met her husband Tim armstrong (Rancid)and she moved to L.A. to be with Tim and start a new band ,they divorced in 2003 and actually is married with the vocal josh homme (queen of the stone age).
The Distillers have broken up (2006) and Brody has formed a new band called Spinnerette....
