Iced earth is a heavy metal band that combines power and thrash metal, was formed in the United States of America in 1985 with the guitarrist and songwriter Jon Schaffer.
The lyrical themes talk about horror, suffering, war and fantasy. The first vocalist was gene Adams who record “enter to the realm”, this demo was popular and for that reason they released an eponymous debut LP with Century media records. But in the end of the first tour Schaffer kick out Gene and introduced to john Greely (Night of the Stormrider1991). Then they had many changes in the band’s members but Schaffer always stayed there.

Later joined the band the great vocalist Matt Barlow he made them very popular also remained with the band for many years, recording “Dark saga”(1996), “Days of purgatory”(1997), “Something wicked this way comes”(1998) ,” Alive in Athens”(1999),”Horror show”(2001)”Tribute to the gods”(2002) but Barlow left the band in 2003 for personal beliefs, he wanted to help to the "real world" he said because he only felt the illusion of been a “rock star” now he’s a police officer and returned to the metal. Is the new singer of Pyramaze,the band is working on an album in 2008.
Actually the vocalist of Iced earth is Tim Owens (ex judas priest) his first album with the band was “The glorious burden”(2004) and the last one “Framing Armageddon” this year.
This was my favourite band I say “was” because like all the fans of iced I prefer Matt Barlow the band it’s not the same without him, Tim Owens is good but not enought .
